Writing Portfolio

      For Applied Writing, I took the class titled Newswriting and Reporting. The piece I decided to include was the assignment where I had to write an in-depth news story and my story was titled, “Instagram: What it is doing to the mental health of young women?” For this assignment, we had to write a story that went into deep detail about a certain topic. We also had to include an infographic that displayed an important aspect of the story as well as three interviews with one of them being with an expert on the topic.  

      I wanted to put this piece from this course on display because this class in particular took me out of my comfort zone. I have always been comfortable with academic writing, and I wouldn’t consider creative writing to be one of my stronger suits. This article was the last one I wrote in this class, and I was able to improve after every piece, so I think this piece shows how I can be pushed out of my comfort zone, but I can still rise to the occasion and create an informative but creative article.
