Political Science

Alongside my minor in writing practices, I am also getting a minor in political science. I have absolutely loved getting a minor in political science and I have taken many more classes than what has been required of me. So, I could have chosen a piece of work from many different political science classes, but I decided to include my final paper from the class Legal Actors and Institutions which I took during the Fall quarter of my senior year. I really enjoyed this class because not only was I able to learn about the history of different legal actors and the legal system, but we also had many different guest speakers that came to our class that talked about their work in the legal field. I loved being able to learn about the legal world from so many people and be able to hear so many different perspectives.
I decided to include this piece in my portfolio because I appreciate that it had two different questions that were completely different and really homed in on the biggest aspects of the class. In this essay, the first question to answer was to write a letter to myself about why I want to become a lawyer and include some of the important messages from our guest speakers that stuck with us. The second question for this paper was to explain how members of the Supreme Court are both soloists and a part of an orchestra with different examples from our class readings and lectures. I liked how for this final paper I was able to take an academic approach and answer a question, but I was also able to write a letter to myself and put into words why I want to become a lawyer.
